Her own experiential and immersive experiences in Corporate roles as well as doing Executive Search in the valley, led her to start theboardiQ, to make a difference in getting gender, under-represented minorities, LGBTQ+, differently abled and veterans into positions of influence and power for Board and Executive Roles. Smita volunteers and serves on the Board of the Bay Area HR Executive Council, a SHRM Affiliate Organization. She additionally volunteers as a Global Advisor with How Women Lead, a San Francisco headquartered Women's Empowerment Organization.

Smita has an MBA from Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar. She also has an accreditation from Smith College, Northampton, Massachusetts, USA and completed the Stanford University Accelerate Your Start Up Idea Course in 2019.
